[RC] Tevis Qualifications who is more qualified - Steve Elliot \(Equine Performance\)

to answer Frank. I personally think no one should go there the first year
maybe two years later and 5 rides a least. To bad so many jam 3 fifties
before the ride and the horse is past the peak or is done, rider and horse.(
Horse should be qualified as well not just the rider)

The person with more conditioning miles NO WAY

It's not the same, It's NOT THE SAME HORSE at the rides you can't get the
same effect trail conditioning alone, and all the metabolics go out the
door at the start of a ride.

This applies to the 100 mile WS RUN too, you have to qualify and make it
under a certain time in a ultra fifty miler to get into the Western States
100.
Even mantatory donating 8 hours trail work or ride volunteer help to get
into the event.
The Tevis buckle is priceless !!

Subject: Re: [RC] Tevis question

The intent is good, unfortunately, it doesn't make any allowances for
the
person who has ridden for many years, has miles & miles of conditioning
rides
under their belt, yet doesn't participate in sanctioned rides. And, at the
opposite end of the spectrum, it allows people who have very little
experience
to do a few 50's one year, then enter Tevis. Which rider is more qualified?

I'm of the opinion that "miles & miles of conditioning rides" are not the
same as participating in sanctioned 100 mile endurance rides.

The effects of riding in sanctioned 100 mile endurance rides, with the
intent of completing or competing, are so different from riding conditioning
rides
