Re: [RC] broken tree Orthoflex--repairable? Could bee. - Laney Humphrey

A broken tree is not a good thing. It can really cause damage to the horse. That saddle needs to become a decorative living room ornament or be tossed in the trash.

Enjoyed a lovely chat with Acie at Orthoflex--he thinks the saddle's some sort of fake because of the funky colored seat leather--they've never carried such an odd color to his knowledge. He said, in any case, it would cost $1,200 to replace a broken tree and suggested that I find some way to shim it together or even use one of the new super "super" glues out there. He was quite friendly and helpful but not particularly interested in taking on the saddle. He did ask that I find the serial number which I haven't done yet.

I hoped that the tree itself was not cracked, but, when I pointed out the flaw to the friend who actually owns the saddle, he put a whole lot of torque on it and succeeded in really breaking the tree (which may have been merely cracked before this.) UGH. I think the problem is a bit more severe now than it was. Clint from Clint's Saddle Shop thinks he can shim it back together as Acie suggested. I'm just wondering how good a fix this produces. If I owned the saddle myself I don't think I'd hesitate. But I don't know that I'd want to buy it with this sort of repair history, and I don't think it's worth it to my friend who hasn't any real use for the saddle in the first place (bought it to resell it). Sure wish this hadn't happened. It's a lovely saddle. I want to be talked into getting it repaired.

Send it back to Ortho flex...the fiberglass covering for the tree may be cracked (not the tree) and it only costs $150.00 to repair and re-ferbish the saddle. Just had it done myself!
