Re: [RC] Saddle fit/Treeless ? - Chris Paus

Diane,

I've found out that people either love or hate treeless saddles. There's not much of a middle ground. I tried them. Didn't work for me and my horses. i ride bareback quite a bit, so that's not the problem. My horses are so round that to get a treeless to stay where it needs to be I have to practically choke the horse with the girth. Even then, the saddle will spin when I try to mount up and loosen up as I ride and start slipping. I find I spend more time fussing with the saddle and not enjoying my ride.

Other people simply love their treeless saddles. You'll find as many opinions on these saddles as there are endurance riders, LOL.

Maybe they have, or maybe a lot of people who are happy with their
experiment tend to post about it. If I'm doing something "new" I'm more
likely to point out my good results to the list. I'd say the majority of
successful competitors are out riding and not posting something like,
"It's still working" about their traditional saddles. >g< If I wanted an
idea of what's working, I'd go TO A RIDE and see, not judge by the number
of posts on the subject. If I paid much attention to the posts I'd sell
my Ortho-Flex, think it was a total failure and a thing of the past. Go
to a ride and wow, there's lots of them...on some very successful rider's
horses. Treeless may be great for your horse but I would judge for
myself, not because "so many people have had great success with them".
