I found a tick near my mare's udder this past weekend - I didn't 
realize what it was until I had yanked it off. She has a small lump 
where it was embedded that I am keeping an eye on [to watch for site 
infection] but I am worried about tick-borne diseases. Has anyone 
used prophylactic antibiotics on a horse from which you have removed 
a tick?


I'll just say I've been through that scenario about 50 times per year for
years. If I got upset about every tick and every lump I'd be upset a lot
and my horse would never be off antibiotics. That said, if I or my horse
ever get lyme disease I'll probably freak over every one.
