I leave my horse's fly mask on overnight because I am not there to 
remove it or put it back on in the morning.  He lives in pasture with 
about 15 horses and does just fine.  It might be different if he were a 
more active horse, or if his pasture buddies were inclined to try to 
take it off for him.
