Re: [RC] Shore to Shore - Jody Rogers-Buttram

I was there that year with Joe Long.... and your right, it was a great time.  Met one of my very best buddies there, Tom Dombroski, he was one of the vets.  He and I stay in touch all the time thru email.  Joe's singing was something that one needed to expience to fully appreciate, and to think I had to put up with it all the time...go ahead, get me here Joe  !!!!!  If anyone is going to this ride, pack for all kinds of weather, warm (but not hot compared to Southern standards) wet, and certainly cold.  The woods are great, tons of deer to see and no nasty Southern Snakes.  I think if I remember correctly, the middle day, Weds. was the one that your rode thru the mine fields....don't get off the trail.  Wish I were going, maybe Joni and I can go up and do it together someday.

Jesse, this ride is in Michigan.  It runs from Lake Huron along the Au Sable River all the way over to Empire, MI on the Lake Michigan side.  It is a 5 day ride.  One can do 50 miles a day or do 25 miles a day.  Usually the 25 miles is the last half of the 50.  But whatever one does, it is an event that is an experience that one will never forget.  I managed 4 days of 50s in the late 80s, and it was like being in a time warp.  One just concentrates on making the 50 miles from camp to camp.  I will never forget Joe Long singing his Dixie song and I would answer with Yankee Doodle.  We all had a great time.   And yes Joe made all 5 days on that great horse of his.  Jeanie
