My boyfriend has a very wide foundation QH and his knees have always
hurt him when he rides him in a Sports Saddle, even with the E-Z
stirrups. I just got a Freeform SB and I let him try it out. For the
first time ever, his knees did not hurt him at all, so I think the
twist of the Freeform alleviates some of the knee pressure.

I think the saddle twist affects our bodies a lot more than most people realize. We focus so much on finding a tree to fit our horses' backs, but often overlook a good fit for the rider. I have learned through trial and error that I require a saddle with a very narrow twist. My knees hurt if I ride in a saddle with a twist too wide.

Some saddles do very little to define the twist and it will vary according to the width of the tree, which means I cannot ride a wide tree in those saddles (Stonewall and Big Horn Endurance are two examples I have found) though I am comfortable in the regular tree.

Free-swinging stirrup leathers help, as do EZ-Ride stirrups. Stiff leather fenders are the worst thing to use. Trotting more than walking helps, getting down to walk a bit myself helps.
