[RC] temper tantrums - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

I have a 17 year old NSH mare,we used to participate in distance rides a few
years back but haven't latley. My issue is that sence we've stopped,she
doesen't have that "boldness" about going out gate and into the trails or down
the road by herself. Yesterday she had a tantrum at the gate hopping up on her
rear legs, I had to get down and lead her out the gate and up the road a
distance before getting on, at which point she continued on like nothing
happened! She loves to trot, we made it several miles before I spotted a friend
of mine in the near distance on her horse comming towards us. He is a huge
black Quarter horse who used to board on the farm. When she saw him she had
another tantrum spinning around and hopping off her front legs, backing up into
the ditch. As she approched us,she turned her horse around and my horse stopped
her craziness and followed along like nothing happened! Why do horses do this?
Why did she follow me out the gate when I was leading her as opposed to riding
her?
