[RC] Older horses in endurance/ shoer in FL - Mary Maynard

My son was lucky enough to have 'Eidellwiess Eric'  Smokey Killen's #2 horse, given him by Diane Marquad,  Smokey's dear friend.
My son learned to ride on Eric, we got Eric when he was 25 yrs old, he had well over 7,000 aerc miles on him with Smokey on board -  My son did at least one 25 miler on him @ the Washoe ride in NV and many, many tough training rides with Eric on the tevis and up on Pacific Crest Trail. He looked to be about 16 yrs old  up to the day he died - he died of colic at 29 yrs of age. He was one of the most amazing horses I have ever had the privilage of owning.
I also rode my friend's 18 yr old mare Ruztezza in the tevis - she got  A's all day and was pulled at the quarry  just a few miles from the finish line for a stone bruise - she too is a amazing horse. Older horses in endurance can do OK , IF they have  good care and proper conditioning and realistic goals.

We REALLY need a shoer in the panhandle of FL   -  I am currently having a shoer drive 4 hours to come shoe my horses. I have fired four shoers since I moved here from CA. MY 100 mile horse is just coming back from being grade 3 off  because of bad bad bad shoing. So if you know how to shoe endurance horses - PLEASE move to the pan handle ;-)
