==========================================

Hello all, I'm an occasional lurker on this board but I have experience with
sarcoids so thought I'd add my 2 cents. Some of you may remember Star, the
white Arabian I rode in Kentucky some years ago. He developed aggressive
sarcoids on his chest. I first tried all the herbal and home remedies, and they
didn't help at all. I then had them surgically removed, but they came back even
more aggressively. They were looking frighteningly bad. I then took him to
Hagyard-Davidson-McGee here in Lexington where they treated it with Regressin
(chemotherapy) combined with freezing the tumors with liquid nitrogen. It was 3
treatments about 6(?) weeks apart, and the chemo was rough on him (but he
already had other pre-existing health problems). However, he survived and the
sarcoids are completely gone, with no reoccurrence after 2 years.

I was told that Regressin stimulates the body's immune response to kill the
virus that causes sarcoids. If you choose this route, plan to lay up your horse
awhile. It is chemotherapy and the body is the war zone... But I was very
pleased with the result and was told that it's the treatment of choice at HDM
for sarcoids. A healthier horse would probably have bounced back quicker than
Star did. But I wasn't ready to say goodbye yet, and he's doing fine now so it
was worth it. When I see him running around the field with that silver mane and
tail flying in the breeze, yeah, it was worth it.

And while cost was not an issue, the treatments were very reasonable.

Regards,
Virginia Goodman
