There are a number of herbicides that will kill everything but grasses.  Some require that one have a pesticide applicator's license to buy, but others are available over the counter.  We've used both categories, but this spring, we just sprayed the pasture with Remedy, available without a pesticide applicator's license.  We bought it from Tractor Supply.  Just be sure to read the label and do not over-apply, or you'll kill some grass too.  The label said no need to move horses and other critters off if you spray, but we still moved them off for a week (sprayed half the pasture, waited a week, then did the other half).  Check the product label and see what types of plants it's best for...some work better for some things, some for others.  You can mix products to get kill of a greater variety of weeds/woody stuff if necessary.  Remedy seems to kill lots of stuff and has worked well for us.

It is not in my turnout--well nothing green is,but I have 2 3/4 acres , grass paddocks that front my property and a small area around my house.Having nothing that you would call great soil in the SE I intentionally (the old gardner in me) planted some white clover a couple years ago to "improve" the soil. 
 Well after reading some posts, --- I am becooming horrified how mcuh the clover seems to taken over. 
  I usually let them access the grass paddocks when it is dry and alternate them . 
 
  I am thinking maybe I should murder the clover ;0) 
 
The rest is a mix of fescue and bermuda --I seeded and weeds from some bad hay bales I used for "mulch"(mistake). 
  I have used 24D before---but sparingly 
 
  Any thoughts???
