PLEASE listen to The Source on this folks and disregard my earlier email.

As a matter of fact, I'm going to follow his advice for 20 Mule Team 100.
(Like I could ever be in Joe Long's class even if I followed his advice--in
my dreams!)

Joe--I just gots to know--you didn't really manage to complete a 100 one
week after doing a 50??

Back when we were running for points and miles, we did that a number of times.
Actually, we once went 65 -- 100 -- 100, in 1986:

Witch Dance 65 (Mississippi), 4th place -- one week later, Lone Star 100
(Texas), 1st BC. One week after that, Heart of Dixie 100 (Alabama), 3rd BC,
although that was a two-day 100.

Two weeks later we did the Beaver Dam 100, 1st BC, followed one week after that
by the Tennessee 75, 2nd BC.

These weren't "easy" rides. Three weeks after the Tennessee we rode the Beaver
Dam "Hello Summer" 50, 2nd place, followed in one week by the Old Dominion 100,
3rd place. (He did get some time off after that!)

That was four 100's, a 75, two 65's and a 50 in a span of ten weeks. He did six
more 100-mile one-day rides that year, plus another 75 and a number of 50's.
His season total for that year was 1910 miles (without multidays).

Between rides one week apart I would ride him just two or three easy miles
Tuesday or Wednesday just to loosen up and check him out.

The next year (1987) he did two 100-mile 1-day rides one week apart, 2nd BC and
3rd BC. Later we did a 50, 2nd place, followed in one week by a two-day 100,
2nd BC, followed in one more week by a one-day 100, 2nd BC, then two weeks to a
one-day 100, 2nd place, followed in one week by another one-day 100, 4th place.
Later that same year we finished 2nd overall on the five-day Shore-to-Shore 250
mile ride -- followed that in two weeks with another 1-day 100. That year's
total was 1605 miles.

Those were his peak years. We completed another couple thousands miles after
that, but nowhere near so intense a schedule.

(But then as I said, he is an atypical horse. I don't recommend attempting this
with most horses.)
