[RC] REAL Walking horse w/ no gallop! - Ridecamp Guest

==========================================

 Well folks,we live and we learn.Just did another multi-day event with two
very different type of gaited horses,same two as a while back.Have figured out
that my borrowed horse Chester,a big tall TWH,did not have the speed I
occasionally need during a field trial.I have never ridden any TWH who could
WALK like this boy-a huge strided head-nodding RW,slow or fast,and unfazed by
mud or terrain changes.Perfect transition from that RW to a canter,but there
the problem arose. NO speed.The canter was extremely lunging and "rocking
chair"(ugh),and not much faster than the RW!.My Chico by comparison is a
flat-cantered,much faster horse,altho he can't begin to walk like Chester. Got
into some situations with big Chester where I needed to get somewhere NOW,and
tried to really push him into a faster canter or gallop,and he almost fell
down.This is a veteran field trial horse.Nice horse for somebody,but not for
me. I am starting to think that to some extent this is the price one will often
pay for that kind of a running walk.
