My guys are on a NICE 40 acre pasture which helps them stay lose after a ride.  I usually give them 2 weeks off no matter what then evaluate.  During the peak ride season when we're riding every 2 weekends, I don't ride during the week.  I think this season I'll try to put a little schooling ride during the week on and see what happens. 
 
Remember, it ALL depends on THAT horse at THAT time.  There's no hard and fast rule.
