Re: [RC] FEI/AERC, feeding in line, 100s, whatever - rides2far: Okeydokey, Soooo, you "can" or "cannot" feed your horse while in the vet line at FEI/AERC rides? Do not sweat it *at all*! Things could be slightly different but here's an example of how it was run last year. There's a wide (not noticable to the horse) bridge you cross between the crew area and where you enter the P&R area. They ask that you not bring hay or pans past the bridge. Turned out there was a BILTMORE ESTATE rule that was the reason for the line being there. The field where they graciously let us have our check is part of a test agricultural field or whatever and they don't want outside seeds...*however* it is lush grass and they can graze! There's no crewing (buckets) beyond that point. Mostly this is to stop 200 riders from dumping 10 gallons of water each on the area where people have to walk the rest of the day. Assuming you stayed at your stuff till your horse was down, you simply walk across the bridge, if you're carrying hay drop it there, walk over into the P&R which will have a zillion volunteers, proceed quickly to one of 8 of the top experience endurance vets in the country who know how to get a horse right on through, and in no time flat you're back at your happy little crew area and your horse is chowing down. :-)) Now all you've got to worry about is making sure you have the obligatory tent. You *gotta* put up a tent at Biltmore for either rain or sun. :-) The only people I ever see harassed are the poor FEI riders who have all these darned observers and selectors pulling and tugging on them. The "dreaded FEI stewards" were some regular endurance riders that most of us already know. And...I've got a news flash for some folks...Biltmore has always had pretty much this exact way of doing things. It's never had that "backyard ride" feel. It was run like a big event whether it was FEI or not...but it's also run well. You get explanations for *everything* in your packet. It's not a big deal. They have nice people to remind you if you forget. No public floggings. >g< Someone else can trot out your horse but they may not allow more than one person to be inside the vet check area with the horse so if you want someone else to trot it you may have to stand outside the flagging to watch. I can't think of anywhere I'd rather do a 100. I think Kaboot was 3 for 3 there. I don't count the year they dropped it to 80 and I pulled myself because the trail was so muddy.
