Re: [RC] Stats on 100s - Truman Prevatt

The beauty of the ROC was not so much the best of the best showed up. I would expect that over half of the people that showed up at any ROC didn't expect to win or top 10 or even care if they did, but they were there because of the challenge to get there. The buckle signified that you and your horse had accomplished a great deal. Not many one season wonders got to the ROC. It gave the average guy with a good horse something to shoot for and something to be proud of. ..

The NC hasn't caught on because many see it as not establishing anything. Many see it as being dominated by "one season wonders." Just recall some of the old discussions.

You don't see horse's advertised as NC or Pan Am qualified today - but you sure did see horses advertised as ROC qualified. The bottom line while the so called popularity of the Pan Am has increased - this is at the same time the 100's has been declining at a somewhat alarming rate. The NC came and there wasn't even a ripple in the decline. So these aren't doing it.

I think the ROC had its day, but it's gone. That's why the National
Championship hasn't caught on. The ROC was where you went to find out if
you were the best of the best. With the advent of the Pan Ams & WEC
competitions, the best of the best are at the Pan Ams or WEC, not at the
NC. If it's handy they may go to the NC, but it's not where you go to
earn a name for having beat the best in the country any more. That ain't
coming back. Look at the names of the top 10 riders at the ROC...You knew
the people, you knew the horses and to see them all in one place at one
time was something.
