[RC] Tail Chewing - GarnerT

I purchased a little mare last year. I'd had her about 3 weeks. I went out
to feed early one morning and couldn't believe my eyes. My gelding's tail
was chewed off clear up to the tail bone - well, except for some long wisps
of his former glorious LONG tail. I couldn't believe it - he looked like a
draft horse. I trimmed the tail up even, because you can't have 4 or 5 long
strands hanging to the ground when the rest of the tail is about 8" long!
It looked like a comb over! My farrier looked and said, "It makes his butt
look bigger." (He's a quarter horse guy). What worked for my horse was
pain. She had chewed his tail & it hurt him so much, he wouldn't let me
comb it for several days. He has never let her touch his tail again. So
much for true love!

P.S. In a year his tail has now grown a little past his hocks, thank
goodness.
