Re: [RC] Wildlife Sightings - Barbara McCrary

One of my favorite wildlife sightings is a bevy of tiny little baby quail, darting around in the tall grass. Of course bobcats are wonderful to see, too, but those little baby quail are just adorable.

It is fun reading everyone's wildlife encounters! Mine was not a
scary one, but a funny one. Shaba and I were out at the
beginning of spring, when all of the baby rabbits were starting
to come out of their nests for the first time. We were trotting
along, and came around a bend right into a group of little
bunnies, that were so small that you could probably fit three to
a size 1 easy boot.  They didn't run off the trail right away;
probably because they did not recognize a horse as a threat.
Shaba slid to a stop, then VERY carefully walked over them, hold-
ing his head down so he could see under his belly and stepping
really high one foot at a time to make sure that he didn't smash
any of them. This is a horse that once picked up a full size
goat and hurled him over a pipe corral for getting in his food,
and he was concerned about stepping on little rabbits. It was
so funny. Once past them, he gave a last look around, then went
back to a trot as if nothing had happened. I am still trying to
figure out how he did that and still kept going straight, cause
he walked w/ his head under the back of his front leg the whole
time. Weird creature.....

Lauretta and Shaba (What?? I didn't want to smash the little guys...they were kinda cute.....)
