Re: [RC] what size bits - Chris Paus

Exactly, ditto what Jonni said.

I have 4 Arabian riding horses. I use 5" bits on three of them, a 4 3/4 on one. I use a different style of bit for each horse depending on the horse's mouth shape, the depth of the palate and the horse's comfort level with bits.

Each horse is an individual. There is no "size per breed" for bits. Some
take smaller bits, some larger. First, maybe you can explain more on what is
happening to make you feel this particular bit seems "not good". What is the
problem? Are you sure it is adjusted correctly in the horses mouth? Is the
horse not working well with the bit, or is it causing sores on the horse. If
you do have sores, where are they? If the horse is not working well, have
you considered other possible problems such as teeth / dental issues? Give
us a little more information, and maybe we can help you, but again, just
because my Arab might take a certain size, does not mean it will fit your
Arab. (BTW, most of mine use a 5")
