Re: [RC] [RC] Trailer Batteries - Truman Prevatt

One of the thing a battery dealer told me once was many of the batteries out there are not designed to take the mechanical stress put on a battery used in an RV - primarily coming from vibration. They will break down mechanically and the plates short long before the end of the battery life. There are a few batteries out there that are designed to withstand vibration - but of course they are a little more expensive.

Be careful when buying, there are some "marine" batteries that are supposed to be a comprimise between LSI (lighting starting and ignition or the common auto battery), and deep cycle. You want the type that is sold for trolling motors and other deep cycle use only.

Obviously, golf cart batteries are a good choice. They are hooked up in "series" to add the voltage together to make 12 V. This is like the two dry cell batteries in a common flashlight. (1.5 + 1.5 = 3)
