I think it might have to do with the amount of exercise. It probably doesnm't hurt a horse who has been running for 2 minutes. But ours have been going for hours and hours.

And it IS important to put it in warm water. We would also use a
Aborbine/alcohol blend as a leg brace before applies standing bandages.
Sometimes, with thin skinned horses, we would see a mild "scurffing"
after afew days, but never anything else.
