Books and Horses, my two favourite things!!! I think Marguerite Henry was my 
fairy godmother! I
read and still own probably every book she's ever written (even the ones about 
dogs!). One of my
favourite books of her's is a compilation of letters from readers and 
background info on her
books, called "Dear Readers and Riders." It contains photographs of the REAL 
Misty of
Chincoteague, Brighty of the Grand Canyon, Wild Horse Annie, etc! Perhaps my 
favourite section of
the book is the chapter about "King of the Wind" where a young woman writes in 
to Mrs Henry about
her trip to London and her search for the final resting place of Sham, the 
Godolphin Arabian. It
is very touching. I also loved "Black Gold," because I grew up in Lafayette, LA 
and it took place
mostly in New Orleans - so close to home! I remember being so angry at the 
school librarian,
because she put it in the fiction section and I KNEW it was a true story!!! You 
know, Mrs Henry
only passed away a year or so ago, she was well into her nineties. I had 
assumed she was long
dead. I wish I'd known she was still alive, because I would have sent her a 
long overdue fan
letter.
