We had a mare that had a "tickle" in her throat for a couple of days...not 
a full out choke but coughing that got worse over two or three days but no 
real discharge, etc.  Called the vet and asked if she had any suggestions. 
She recommended a shot of Oxytocin because it contracts the smooth muscles 
of the body, not just the uterus.  Since we breed, I have it on hand and 
she was fine not long after the shot.  Something to consider if you have it 
available.
