[RC] AHA Registration Fees & programs - DreamWeaver

Okay, well since I mentioned that they charged me a different amount than they said they would when I registered two of my horses, I'm happy to report that I received a check in the mail today from AHA for $40.00. :)

Also, a few people wrote and asked about the mileage awards programs. Here is a link to their distance riding programs:

http://www.arabianhorses.org/competitions/distance/dist_programs.asp and http://www.arabianhorses.org/activities/aa/haa.asp

The first level an endurance horse can reach is the Legion of Honor and will add a "+" symbol after the horses name. To earn that you need to get 75 points. It is a slow process, as most 50 mile rides we do will only net us 2 points. You can get more points for top tenning if there are a large # of entrants (they do reduce points if there aren't a significant # of finishers), or for getting BC, or for doing 100's.

The next level after that is a Legion of Supreme Honor which will add the "+/" (plus and dash) after the horses name. You need 150 points to get to that level. At 300 points you can get the Legion of Excellence which is a plus and two dash's "+//".

You can find the points table for endurance rides here: http://secure.arabianhorses.org/2005handbook/chapter_21.pdf You can see for example, that if you finish 10th with 32 to 35 riders you won't get any extra points on a 50 miler. You actually get 4 points for completing a 50, but it is reduced by 50%. 25 Milers are reduced to 25%, and 100's, get 100% -- so 4 points for doing a 100, which ends up giving you the same points as if you do two 50's (who figured this stuff out anyway? lol)

So in my case, it's a long slow process to earn even a "+". It took Chief probably 35 miles to earn his, and he's probably now only about a dozen rides away from getting the dash "/", and then I guess after that we'll start working on the next 150 points. Why not? Even if it's only 2 points per ride we'll at least piddle away at it, it could take years and years but I can think of worse goals to shoot for :). They did already send me a really beautiful plaque for reaching the Legion of Honor milestone. Oh, and $40 back too~!
