[RC] Papers and horses - ranch

"...always belong to the HORSE..."
It is very common for responsible breeders of dogs to not supply the
papers for PET quality dogs until they have proof that the animal has
been spayed or castrated. It is their way to prevent irresponsible
breeding. Since, for a number of reasons mares are only rarely spayed,
I can see good reason to not sell a mare with papers if you feel she
should not be bred on.

Not every registered mare of any breed should be bred on. Retaining
papers on a gelding makes almost no sense, unless you are very
embarrassed with his conformation and don't want people to think he is
representative of your breeding program. Selling colt before gelding
him, (if you don't think he should be used for breeding) should not be
done, unless there is a medical reason for delay.
