[RC] Horse massage - Winter, Randy or Cheryl

I have had a massage therapist work on my horses as needed, for years. She
gives me a discount if I buy a package of ten. Her expertise as a Human
trainer, CMT, and masters in sports medicine have been used well for our
horses. She works primarily on professional human tri athletes, and muscle
responds the same on both animals to massage. What she has been able to do
so well is identify the areas where they seem to carry their tightness and
soreness, not obvious to me, work it out, and then give me my instructions
on what to work on until she comes back. She keeps a log on each horse, so
there is a history of how they are doing. I have found this to be very
helpful for our animals to stay loose and try to avoid the muscle tightness
that can become so common in hard working horses. All of this originated
out of a mare I had that developed muscle problems in the back, due to very
tight hamstrings for mountain work. I have seen this for myself where a
tight lower back can be because of tight hamstrings. The more I stretch
them the better it all feels.
The thing I have really liked about this woman is she knows how to go deep
into the muscle, if the hoses allows it, and really work them out and
release knots or extreme tension. I have used some people who IMO use to
light of a touch and are really only doing surface feel good skin work
rather than deep tissue work. If you have some one do deep work, they have
to be able to recognize when it is too sore to get in there, and how to do
so in a manner that does not make the horse tighten up more.

Good luck, I think it can be money well spent.

Cheryl
