Thanks for the great post Kat. You pointed out that there are various reasons and uses for stud books, ranging from the silly (American Grade Horse Registry) to enhancement of performance (the Warmbloods you mentioned) and everything inbetween.
A stud book or registry can be a useful tool for a serious breeder, or an ego booster for a rich person depending upon how it is used.
