RE: [RC] Stall walls - Linda Cowles

I gave up and got wire mesh/screen for on the upper surfaces of my stalls at
a boarding stable once; I used the heavy 1/4 inch type, not chicken wire.

I used the metal edging that is used over wallboard on corners to cover
every wood edge, so this metal covered the wire mesh on the sides and upper
edges. I didn't run it to the floor, just the top 3 feet of the stall wall.
The metal edging worked great... I ran it up the 4x4's, around the doors...
It "termite-proofed" my stall.

Subject: [RC] Stall walls

OK, I've been wanting to ask this question for a long time so
here goes.
Has anyone found a good material for lining stall walls, one
that horses can't get their teeth into? I've had several
horses who rake their teeth over the plywood walls until they
find a spot that they can start chewing on. It would be
great if I could find something that came in large sheets,
like 4 x 8 and could install it over the old damaged plywood
with the "Halt Crib" painted spots that look so ugly. It's a
daily routine to inspect and paint the latest chew spots,
particularly in one horse's stall. He got everyone else into
the game too. They have ample grass hay morning and evening
on a regular schedule, each stall has a 20 x 60 sand/pea
gravel paddock plus this time of year they get turn out to a
5 acre area for 1/2 a day so they shouldn't be doing it out
of boredom. So, any ideas will be welcomed.
Thanks,
Betty Edgar, NW Region
