Hey, Jim, my kids and I lived like that in northern Wisconsin only 30 years ago in the  1970s.

150 years? I'm 63. Until I was about 10, my grandfather had no electricity
other than a single light bulb from the ceiling on a cord in two rooms,(no
plugs)water was a hand pump on the back porch, and my grandmother cooked on
a wood stove. I still fondly remember the taste of sugar syrup and biscuits
made with lard and cold left-over fried flounder and hot grits for
breakfast. The bathroom was a privy out back and we bathed in a "tin tub" in
front of the fireplace with water heated on the stove. That was only about
FIFTY years ago.

AHHH......a voice of reason. My only argument to Diane's philosophic
discussion is this: We are incredibly better off than we were 150 years
ago, much less 5,000.
