Timothy is a grass hay. It can be fed free choice to any horses, 
including seniors. Timothy is widely considered to be an excellent 
horse hay, perhaps even THE best horse hay.  It is my first choice in 
hay. I buy it straight, or mixed with some orchard grass and/or a 
little alfalfa.
I can't imagine having any problems feeding a good timothy hay.
