==========================================

I missed Don's Memorial Service. I did so want to attend.

From what Susan has told me about it quite a few endurance riders
attended and told Don stories.

Here's mine (this is a section from a story I wrote years ago):

"Then somehow the subject gets to sex. I get tempted to tell them about my
tradition with my wife, the night before I leave for a ride, but decide to
listen instead. Susan starts telling us about her husband's new habit of
buying Viagra. I find the subject interesting cause I see hope in my future,
when my time comes, to continue the pursuit of.......well, you understand I'm
sure. A person in the group asks Susan how often her husband takes the
pills. She says, "Oh, he don't take them, he sells them to all his buddies.
Doctor gave him a prescription, insurance pays for everything, and his
friends all love the darn things." I had to turn my head so I didn't spit
out beer on anyone, I was laughing so hard. Susan may just be funnier than
her friend Angie."

OK, that was at a ride in 2000, where a bunch of us got together and talked.
Susan's story was about something Don had done. After my story actually got
published (this part anyway) in Endurance News, Susan kinda kept Don away from
me, intentionally.

I kind of knew she was doing this, so, before I actually met Don for the first
time (at Leatherwood, I believe) I had this fear thing going because of me
writing those paragraphs (without Don's permission) of Don selling Viagra.
Because of Susan keeping Don away from me, I thought Don might just beat my ass
(wouldn't be the first time something like this had happened to me) when we did
first meet.

Then, after meeting Don, well, he was like a big, gentle, kitten. I got to
enjoy his company so much, after a few more rides, and watching the interaction
between Susan (whom I adore) and Don, well, let's just say life don't get much
better than that.

I guess that's it. I just wanted to say something about Don, whom I'll miss so
much rides will never be the same, to me, without him.

cya,
Howard
