Re: [RC] light western saddle - rides2far

dede, i suggest a bighorn western saddle. lightweight,
comfortable, and will fit your big guy(horse and rider) it
is a model 175, in either a 16

Hey Ed,

Maybe yours is broader because of the bigger seat, but we borrowed the
Big Horn tree once (factory is 6 miles from here) to put on our guys. My
husband owned a Big Horn (15") at the time and rode a stocky App. When we
put it on him it was OK in the pomel area, but in the rear the tree was
too narrow and he was riding on the edges. My riding partner at the time
rode an "American" (cheaper version of Big Horn on same tree built across
the road) and that was where her horse was sore after rides the rear
edges in the cantle area...even though she was a featherweight. The tree
actually fit one of my narrower Arabs like a custom fit. I have a side
view photo of that horse I'll send to you privately. The weirdest thing
was, I kept telling Big Horn they should build their endurance saddle on
an Arabian tree. We borrowed their Arabian tree and it would have fit a
Belgian...VERY wide. This was about 12 years ago. Things could have
changed. I believe our Big Horn was the 800 series if I recall
correctly. Seems like the 16" was a different number.
