Really, do not listen to others.  No matter what, you can not make all people happy.
The snotty remarks about weight etc remind me of the hunt ring. 
It actually has nothing to do with you.  It is in order to make themselves feel better about themselves.  Otherwise, there isn't a need for negative remarks.

DON'T LET ANYONE STEAL YOUR DREAM....this is a "team" sport...but the team consists of you and your horse...no one else's opinions matter.
