[RC] LD in NE - Laura Hayes

 
There is a 30 miler in Maine at Pine Tree in June, and two 30 milers in PA at Michaux at the end of May.
 
Seems like if you think you can do 25, then 30 is not a stretch.  They are most likely that length because that was the best use of the trail and it ended up 30, not 25 miles.
 
You could call the managers of any local rides that do not have an LD and ask if you volunteer some time, if you could come and drag ride a loop or two or take down ribbons.  That way, you could get the training  miles and get your feet wet that way.  I did that with a young horse last year at Michaux. 
 
There is also always the option of entering the 50 with the intention of going only 25, and then you get to experience the vet checks and such.  It's ok not to finish.  You could say--"going as far as you want to go that day is to win"  LOL
