Re: [RC] Plantar Fascitis/type of foot pain - MarisR

the real problem with plantar fasciitis does not start with the arch of the foot, that is merely a symptom of a deeper problem.  the heel cords have tightened, too short, preventing the hell of the foot from properly reachingthe ground.  The tendon mechanisms then pull across the arch of the foot, causing pain inthe arch.  Taping gives some short term relief, but does nothing to solve the problem.  you need to start stretching exercises for the heel cords, but more importantly, you need to prevent worseningthe problem while you sleep.  Almost all of us sleep with the toes long, heels shortened.  Which is why you probably find that getting out of bed inthe morning and putting your feet on the floor is very painful.  You should be sleeping in an ankle brace that prevents foot extension, until the stretching exercises have a chance to solve the real problem, which could take a couple of months.
