[RC] Schooling Helmets - k s swigart

Chris Paus said:

Look in the catalogs.. you'll see some brands label their
low end helmets as "schooling." It means they provide
safety for your head and meet ASTM requirements, but
they don't have things such as removable or flexible visors
and may not come in a lot of pretty colors.

This is exactly the opposite of my own experience. Schooling helmets
(and the other "low end" ones) come in a whole bunch of exotic colors
with removable visors and velcro whatever....while show helmets pretty
much come in black velvet (or sometimes brown or some other very muted
shade) and the visor, while flexible, is built in. The only exception
is the fairly new "titanium" helmets that have become the helmet of
choice in the hunter/jumper show ring. While they are not black velvet,
they come in one color, which is a rather muted gray.

All of these show helmets are significantly more expensive than the
festively colored shooling ones.
