RE: [RC] cold weather cooling out - Libby & Quentin Llop DVM

First off, if you are going to be riding a lot, a modified trace clip makes a huge difference in your horses comfort and cooling out time. Horses with their "tums and necks" clipped can still live outside happily in our climate (ave. January temps. 32/16, record Jan temps 75/-15)  without blanketing. They don't get as sweaty and dry out much faster. After a ride we put them in the barn with a cooler on and something to eat and come back a few hours later when they are dry and turn them out.  Libby

Subject: [RC] cold weather cooling out

I'm gathering some information for an article on cooling out horses after a vigorous winter ride and wanted to find out what others do with their horses. I would appreciate it if only those who have a lot of experience would reply.

Thanks,
Susan
