Welcome to the wonderful sport of endurance riding. You can go on this website and look at the Mentors listed under the Newbie tab. You can also go to www.aerc.org and do a search for rides in your area.
If you consider a ride out of state in Northern CA as Nancy suggested, be sure that you get a Health Certificate and Coggins test from your veterinarian prior to attempting to come into the state of CA. Also, be prepared to give up any hay at the agriculture check on I-5 as you enter the state. If it's open, they will confiscate it. :(
