[RC] travel to Reno - Karen Sullivan

I apologize to  those not in Calif, but wonder if those planning to drive over Hwy 80 to Reno tomorrow are watching the current road conditions and weather.  It is sounding really, really bad right now (several feet of snow and blizzard conditions) and same tomorrow.......am I being a wuss here to think this is not a good idea to head into this, even with chains?

Would appreciate opinions from those more experienced with Sierra travel...

Karen -- it's not looking real good right now.  The Truckee school district shut down schools today, this looks to be a really big storm.  Snow level dropping to 5000 feet tonight.  Should clear up by the weekend though, so you may just have to wait a day if you want to get over I-80.  Last night on the news they said that I-80 was still open but weren't optimistic that it would be 24 hours from then (11 p.m. last night).  If you do come, bring 4WD if you've got it (hopefully with snow tires) and chains and be careful!  I can post the conditions later today or tomorrow.  Actually, at home I've got bookmarked quite a few road conditions pages and in my cell phone all of the toll free phone #'s to call for highway conditions for Nevada and California.  I'll post all of that stuff later today.
