So for the idle curious: What kind of saddles were seen  on the
competitors over there?    And pads?    Especially the "specialty" pads.It
wasn't  all english saddles and sheepskin pads was it?>>

There were a lot of English saddles, and some 'endurance' saddles (hybrids).
Riders here don't carry much with them (no sense of humor) since the crews
literally follow them on the course - everything can be carried in the rigs.
I saw a few that looked like treeless saddles, many classic english style
saddles, and a few that looked like the european style endurance saddle
(podium, gaston mercier, etc).

Pads...? I didn't really notice (hard to see).
