30 years ago when I had a quick primer on leather by an old glove
manufacturer I found that the leather for welding gloves is specially tanned
without the use of oil.  It seems that oiled leather is less heat resistant
and more likely to catch on fire.

My contact said nothing about revitalizing that type of leather.
