[RC] friend's young mare - sandy . l . holder

Hi all,

Thought I'd shoot out a note.  My friend has a young mare, egyptian (Ibn something) and polish (Bask) and a young gelding (I have this information saved on another e-mail).  As you can tell, I'm not a breeder - still learning the ropes myself.  In any event, they live in the SF bay area.  The mare is 14.2 h and will be 4 yrs. old in June and the gelding is already well over 15 hands and already 4 yrs. old.  She's thinking about doing endurance but thinks that the mare is a bit too small for her (she's 5'10" - and likely a middleweight) so is thinking about selling her.  The gelding is a bit obnoxious so she's sending him out for training (she's been working both slowly over the past couple of years - on things appropriate for their age and will be moving him out of the arena for slow trail work soon).  Obviously she could put her mare on bayequest.com (maybe already has) but I was curious if anyone out there might be interested in her.  She's raised this mare from a baby so has tremendously bonded to her so if she sells her to an endurance person (I've told her we're all terrific - but then there's always the rare bad apple - none of which I've met yet), she's worried that if her mare doesn't fit that particular persons purpose, then the mare could get resold - etc.  She's thought about leasing her out but the mare's not had training and is just 'the sweetest girl'.

I'm not sure what to tell her.  Any advise or anyone interested in her, please let me know.  By the way, I have no financial interest in this mare but Donna is my friend and since ridecamp is such a wonderful community, I knew you folks could provide some great insight that I could share with her.  Also, I've been handing down all my Endurance News magazines after I read them (after I photo copy the articles I save in my binder) and have offered to try and mentor her - for what I know (LSD, LDS, repeat 10 times) - and introduce her to all my endurance friends (who know a heck of a lot more than me), so we can hopefully ride together.

In any event, please feel free to post to ridecamp, or to me personally as I'll be happy either way.

Thanks y'all,
Sandy
