Re: [RC] Non traditional/Endurance-EN covers - Jon . Linderman

For those who think there is some conspiracy against non-traditional breeds
& for that matter against LD as well, one might consider that over the past
year about 1/2 of the EN covers have had non-arab & a number of LD riders
on the cover. We have seen a Morgan (which I wouldn't consider
non-tradiional!), a draft, a paso fino, a thoroughbred, a saddlebred, etc.
If the sport doesn't want/accept non-arabs or LD riders........why the heck
would they be on the cove of our flagship magazine?

If you've ever been around breed-specific disciplines, like various show &
race horses I have been involved with you know that you simply can't find
a group of people as a whole more accepting than endurance folk. Arab,
arab-cross, 1/4 horse, or 17 beat spotted
pace-a-walk-a-trot-aloosa........I just haven't seen people give a hoot.

Keep it healthy, ride it safe, have fun.

Jon

I have been bringing my mule along in Endurance and so far...she has really
impressed me with her ease in handling every sort of terrain and situation.
On our 2nd 50 mile ride (East Mojave Scenic) she averaged 9mph...a steady
effortless pace, I don't think she even sweated. She doesn't care if the
horses go nuts, or gallop past, she seems to know that we will soon pass
them when they poop out, (and She's only just 5.) We've done 250 LD miles
and working on 50's and and I haven't seen her tired yet. She doesn't waste
energy, is strong, courteous and takes care of herself (and me.) I don't
know why more people don't use mules, especially for the longer and
multi-day rides. They seem so well suited...if you can put up with their
Prima Donna attitudes. I Love my mule.
