[RC] ponying - Nancy Reed

I have been ponying Lyric some due to saddle issues.  She also likes to bit the butt of the lead horse, Sierra.  Sierra is too much of a pro to kick her.  I use a rope halter/lead combo and shake the rope at her when she misbehaves and sternly say NO!  I saw Pony Boy a few weeks ago and he used the rope shake technique with good results while in a round pin.  So I tried it ponying and have had good luck with it.  I also learned that the rope halter is a better to use than a flat one as the rope is uncomfortable if they are too slow or stop.  I  loosely put 2 wraps of my rope on my horn when ponying. It is not tied, just a wrap to keep the rope end out of the way.  It just pulls off if tension is applied.  We are getting good at it, go through the creek and can trot on wide trails.  I just hope we do not run into the new bobcat that moved into the ‘hood after the fires!
