Keep in mind that a "cowboy snaffle" with long shanks is not a snaffle at
all, but actually a curb bit with the added harshness of having all that
leverage to "nutcracker" the lower jaw. It is about one of the most
painful bits I can imagine. I can imagine it was just excruciating for
her, given the pathology present as well.

Yeah, I know *shudder* I felt terrible about the whole thing. My vet did make me feel a bit better when he said the damage had been done previously, and our three weeks of riding at the time hadn't done anymore than make old damage more apparent. I sure felt sorry for the old gal though..... I've been riding horses for Jeez, nearly 30 years now! and I'm still learning!
