[Fwd: [RC] scratches] - Jim Holland

My guys used to get scratches all the time....especially at rides. I feel the back of their pasterns every day to catch it early.

Unless you just want to spend a lot of time and $$$ on all the "home remedies" and "snake oil" stuff from the supply houses...

Just wash the pasterns with an Antibacterial Dish Soap...I use Palmolive. This softens the scabs. Scrape them off, dry with a towel and apply Neosporin.....or go to Wal-Mart and buy "Triple Antibiotic Ointment"....3 tubes for the price of one Neosporin. Apply daily unless it rains and washes it off...then do it twice a day.

Even severe cases healed in three days.

Sunny ALWAYS got scratches at every ride...until I started washing his pasterns and coating them with Neosporin just before I put him on the trailer. Works great as a preventative...apply when you give a bath or rinse off after riding....just not a problem anymore.  An ounce of prevention......only takes a minute....

Does anyone out there have a wonder cure for Scratches.  I am using
Shapleys MTG from Jeffers.  Seems to be helping but would like a faster =
cure
for this nasty stuff.  I have tried Micro Tek and Destin before and it =
does
not seem to help any better.  Help!
