[RC] Girls and horses - Adam and Jannelle

My friend says that besides the two kids she has with her ex-hubbie the
only other good thing that came from him was his reading and sharing that
girls who have horses are more likely to discover boys two years later than
the average girl. For this reason alone, all of my friends with pre-teen
daughters often knock down my doors wanting me to take their daughters
everywhere with me and horses...Thank heavens I have two boys.

And I must say that one of the things that impressed my husband and I both
about the endurance community when we first started exploring it was the
fact that FAMILIES are involved. We saw children and parents and sometimes
grandparents. Being parents of 4 and 9 year old boys, this was very
important to us. We wanted to be involved with something that we could do
as a family. Tho my kids won't go on ridea for a while (the oldest is
trying to figure out how to trot and enjoy it), they can be with us in camp
and have fun camping and doing all the other things that makes endurance
fun besides the horses.

I know that some people can't stand children but I'm sure glad that they
keep that to themselves at rides. My kids are told the rules and they are
expected to mind them. If people are going to let their children (or even
their pets) run a-muck, no rules are going to change that.

Jannelle, who's glad this can be a family-friendly sport

The youngest finally
convinced him to let her have a horse, she had no problems growing up. He
later said to me "If I had known how easy it was I would have gotten the
other two horses when they wanted them."
