[RC] use common sense to condition and evaluate ability - Mary Ann Spencer

Sounds like you picked up the important stuff.  :)  And when you do your LDs,
as several other folks have said, then *those* rides become conditioning
rides as well.  :)   Just don't let your horse's brain control the pace.  Horses
will tell you they're in shape to go faster at a ride than you've been doing
during conditioning.  They're lying.  Ride like you condition, and you'll get
there.

Well put Dawn!!!!!  One strategy is to let the front runners leave ahead of you and wait 20-30 minutes so you CAN ride your own ride!!!!   Also, finding someone who is also going slower than the jack rabbits is helpful.   Many riders over the years have used the ride as conditioning and training.  Horses get VERY excited when they are around a new group of horses--the bigger the groupl the more excited.   BUT USE COMMON SENSE!!!!   IHMO,   Mary Ann
