Re: [RC] Fitness - Kristene Smuts

Feel free to disagree, but I think it is important to let people know that
they don't have to give up everything to condition a horse for miles & miles
and hours & hours in the dark several days a week with reflective materials
on them to be able to do a 25 every month!>>

I would agree there. When I started my horses, I had limited space, but more
time. I did a lot of walking in our area and if I really used my imagination,
I could get 5km out of the entire area where I have the horses. So, I would do
a lot of "power" walking 3 times a week and could easily do a slow-ish 60km
ride. I used to box out to friends who had more space to do my once a week
long distance. Then Cindy mentioned that for the longer distances or if I
wanted to speed it up a bit, I should use the actual events as training
sessions. That worked!

Now, I have limited time, but I'm going to stick to what works. BTW, the
horses would all pulse down quickly AND I have amazing walks on those beasties!
;-))
