How many miles/riding did Drin and Ruffy do in the intervening 6 weeks? Jimmy has looked best when we kept busy between rides and not as good when I gave him a few weeks off. <snip> Dean (and Jimmy the heavily muscled, 15.3 QH who doesn?t want to experience a tie up!!!) Dean, I'm very new to this sport (but not to horses), and have never had a tie up (knock on wood), however, I would venture to guess that Drin's Arabian out on pasture between rides didn't lose much conditioning. Jimmy, being a heavily muscled QH will need a different conditioning program than most Arabians, particularly those with performance/endurance breeding (which Drin's mare has [I looked her up, I've never met her]). My own experience with keeping Arabians fit is that once they reach a fitness level they can maintain that level very easily with very little additional riding.
